Chris Nikolas Studio Offers Individual Instruction In the art of jewelry making.
Our San Francisco Studio offers individual instruction in the art of jewelry making,
to start to learn basic techniques applied in silver, gold, and platinum fabrication.
Private training dedicated to your needs. You can start to develop skills and techniques
necessary to take your design from concept to completion to create handcrafted jewelry
without previous experience.
Beginning, Signup: Prior to sign up, a free 30-minute bench interview is recommended
to assess skills, aims, and plan a personal approach to your training. There is no registration fee. Necessary tool sets are provided for students for a
variety of projects including the material (silver) that is needed for each piece (with
no additional fee). Each crafted piece may be kept by the student.
The students must be 17 years and older. $35 per hour fee applies for all continuing
students and $25 for new students for a limited time of two sessions two hours each
totaling four hours. To start maybe you will need to shuttle a plan, but this is
flexible. Canceling a lesson requires 24 hours prior notice.
Starting to learn: Students are introduced to the equipment and handtools in the studio.
They will focus on learning the basics such as: cutting, sawing, shaping, filing,
sanding, polishing, texturing, getting familiar with the flex shaft for drilling,
burring, working with the wheels, getting used to the torch for soldering, fusing,
annealing and using laser equipment for welding.
After training on basics (two learning sessions totaling 3 to 4 hours) students will
begin work on small projects. Brainstorming on a concept to create and refine ideas for a workable design to fabricate
a well crafted original jewelry piece with step-by-step instruction. In addition to that, students may bring current projects to add to the curriculum (time
and skills permitting).
It is important for us to help learners to build confidence in their abilities and goals
from the first steps, which builds improvement on proficiency and skills throughout the
process.
Private instruction helps students achieve their personal performance goals. We are
dedicated to raising the level of skill and integrity in all aspects, technical and
artistic.
For Working Jewelers & Designers:
• Concept valuation / production,
• Design implementation / production,
• Line development / organizing production
• Creating prototypes and master models
• CNC and day cat aid production
To gain a greater understanding of concept-driven artwork, some of these instructions focused more on ideas, rather than techniques.
